Balaji – My Journey from Hinduism to Islam

Assalamualaikum, dear brothers and sisters. I am honored to share my transformative journey from Hinduism to Islam. My name is now Muhammad Amin, though I was formerly known as Balaji. This is the story of how I found peace and truth in Islam.

Early Life and Exposure to Christianity

I was raised in a Hindu family and practiced Hinduism throughout my childhood. At the age of 12, while attending a Christian school, I was introduced to the Bible through an annual scripture test. Despite being the only Hindu student, I achieved distinction in the exam. The teachings of the Bible deeply moved me, prompting me to explore Christianity further. I began attending church regularly, studying biblical teachings, and considering adopting the faith.

A Turning Point: Discovering Islam

During my 10th grade, a Muslim friend introduced me to Islam by mentioning Prophet Abraham (AS). Intrigued, I discussed this with my pastor, who explained that Muslims follow Prophet Ismail (AS), born to a maid, and claimed that God did not accept him. This explanation left me confused and questioning the fairness of such a belief. Why would God create Ismail (AS) or the maid if He did not accept them? This doubt led me to re-examine my own faith.

Questioning Hinduism and Atheism

I began studying the Hindu Vedas, translating Sanskrit verses into Tamil, my native language. To my surprise, I discovered teachings emphasizing the oneness of God and warning against idol worship. This contradicted the practices of Hinduism, where idols are venerated, and Christianity, where crosses and statues are used in worship. These inconsistencies led me to question the existence of God altogether, and I adopted an atheistic worldview for a time.

Rediscovering Faith Through Islam

A Muslim friend invited me to a mosque during Ramadan, sparking my curiosity about Islamic worship. Although I initially attended out of curiosity, I found the physical movements of Salah (prayer) refreshing and meaningful. However, misconceptions about Muslims being harsh or intolerant made me hesitant to explore further.

In my 12th grade, another friend encouraged me to attend Juma prayers regularly. It was there that I met Saddam, a neighbor who noticed my consistent attendance. When I shared my atheistic beliefs and spiritual doubts, he responded with kindness and wisdom. He encouraged me to reflect on life’s purpose, the inevitability of death, and the afterlife. Saddam gifted me a Tamil-translated Quran, assuring me that it held the answers I sought.

The Truth Unveiled

One evening, Saddam invited me to the mosque early for Isha prayer. As I joined the first row, I searched for idols but found none. When I asked Saddam about this, he replied, “Have you ever seen God with your eyes?” I admitted I hadn’t. He then asked, “How can you create an idol of something you’ve never seen?” This simple yet profound logic resonated deeply with me.

I began reading the Quran and was amazed by its scientific accuracy, which aligned with modern discoveries. The clarity and wisdom of its teachings captivated me, and I felt a growing connection to Islam. In 2016, I embraced Islam, reciting the Shahada and feeling a profound sense of rebirth. My first Salah felt like a direct conversation with Allah, an experience that words cannot fully describe.

A Message to My Brothers and Sisters in Islam

To my fellow Muslims, I humbly request your prayers and urge you to share the knowledge of the Quran with others. Islam is a divine gift from Allah, and I encourage everyone to hold onto it firmly. If you have a revert story to share, please reach out to us via email.
